Mengenal dan Melestarikan Budaya Lokal melalui Partisipasi Mahasiswa KKN dalam Pesta Pernikahan di Desa Ramba

Abstract

Kemuningan Village, located in Taman Krocok Sub-district, Bondowoso Regency, has the largest Wedding celebrations in Ramba Village, Huristak Subdistrict, Padang Lawas Regency have a set of customs and traditions that differ from those of Mandailing Natal, the hometown of most KKN students, making it a new and interesting cultural experience to learn and document. During the KKN program, specifically in July-August 2026, students had the opportunity to attend several wedding celebrations in the village, where they were directly involved in the events, from preparation to implementation. This activity aimed to gain a closer understanding of the wedding traditions of the Ramba Village community while documenting these customs as part of an effort to preserve local culture. The method used was direct participation, in which female students helped with cooking and serving food to female guests, while male students helped set up tents and served male guests during the event. In addition to direct participation, students also conducted interviews with a local community figure to gather information on the meaning and procedures of wedding customs in Ramba Village. Through this activity, several differences were found in how wedding celebrations are conducted between Ramba Village and Mandailing Natal, particularly in the division of tasks between women and men and the sequence of events during the celebration. The results of this activity consist of photo documentation, interview notes, and a written report on the local wedding tradition. From this activity, it can be concluded that direct participation combined with interviews with community figures is an effective way for KKN students to learn about and help preserve local culture that differs from their own hometown.
